Investor perspectives: the case for natural capital

The day began with Andy Creak, Robert Gardner (Rebalance Earth), Fraser Green (Aberdeen Investments), William Johnson CFA (Gresham House) and Samriddhi Sharma (Fulcrum Asset Management) presented insights from the newly launched Natural Capital: A Guide for Institutional Investors, produced through a collaboration convened by Kana Earth.

Their message was clear:
the “why now” for investing in nature has arrived, and early movers will be best positioned to capture value.

Drivers highlighted included rising compliance pressures, increasing costs linked to nature degradation, and the strategic resilience benefits that natural capital brings to diversified portfolios.

How technology can scale and strengthen nature markets

Later in the day, Ashley Lloyd chaired a panel with Sarah Bishop (Treeconomy), Dave Kilbey (Natural Apptitude) and Andrew Hicks (BNGx) to explore how digital infrastructure and technological innovation are shaping the future of natural capital.

The session highlighted how high-integrity measurement, reporting and verification (MRV), combined with clearer market standards, can unlock institutional participation at scale. Ashley shared how Kana Earth is providing investors with the reporting, transparency and portfolio oversight needed to allocate capital into nature with confidence—a critical step in building trust and accelerating investment flows.

Market Updates: signals of a maturing landscape

The conference also showcased real progress across the broader ecosystem.

Key developments included:

1. Nature Broking x Clyde & Co: A potential market breakthrough

Nature Broking announced a five-year partnership with Clyde & Co to secure carbon removal credits covering 10,000 tonnes of residual emissions annually from 2038.
Importantly, these credits will be held on the balance sheet as IAS-compliant assets—a notable shift that reframes sustainability expenditure from cost to asset, with upside potential if removal values rise.

2. Oyster Heaven’s Expanding Investment Case

George Birch and James Hurrell presented the compelling business case for oyster reef restoration through Oyster Heaven, including their partnership with Nestlé Purina to purchase ecological outcomes.
Backed by Rebalance Earth, their pipeline demonstrates how outcome buyers and nature credit purchasers are reshaping demand and strengthening the economic rationale for investing in nature as a driver of long-term operational resilience.

A turning point for nature finance

This year’s conference felt different. The momentum was tangible, with nature increasingly recognised not just as a sustainability issue but as a core component of business operations and investment strategy.
Those who act early will be best placed to benefit as the market continues to mature.

Kana Earth extends its thanks to Bruce Howard and the entire EKN team for hosting a thoughtful and energising event that continues to advance the conversation around nature finance.
