Kana Earth joins the Carbon Data Open Protocol (CDOP)

CDOP is developing an open-source standard for reporting, sharing, and verifying carbon credit information, helping to build the trusted data foundations needed for a high-integrity, scalable carbon market.

Why CDOP matters

Carbon markets play a critical role in accelerating global climate action. However, progress has been slowed by fragmented, inconsistent data that makes it harder for investors, governments, and project developers to assess the credibility and impact of carbon projects.

By standardising carbon credit data, CDOP aims to:

  • Reduce duplication across the market

  • Improve transparency and comparability

  • Strengthen interoperability between systems

  • Support higher-quality decision-making

  • Direct more investment into effective climate solutions

This work becomes even more important in the context of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement, which is creating new frameworks for international carbon credit trading. Transparent, consistent data is essential to ensure credibility, avoid double counting, and support the long-term growth of global carbon markets.

Kana Earth’s contribution

We are pleased to collaborate with the organisations driving CDOP’s development. Kana Earth is contributing through:

  • Luke Barklie, joining the Technical Working Group

  • Tom Ritchie, joining the Principles and Policy Working Group

Together, they will help shape both the technical design and the governance principles of the protocol.

Looking ahead

Kana Earth is committed to supporting efforts that strengthen trust, transparency, and integrity across carbon markets. Joining CDOP aligns with our mission to build digital infrastructure that accelerates investment into nature and climate solutions.

We look forward to working with the CDOP community to help develop a reliable and scalable standard for carbon credit data.
