Kana Earth's role: Digitising the standard
Kana Earth is proud to have contributed to the development of the Community Inclusion Standard (CIS), a new UK-wide framework designed to ensure that local communities are meaningfully included in the benefits created through natural capital projects.
01 May 2025
The CIS provides a structured, transparent process for identifying, documenting, and verifying community inclusion across nature projects. It supports best practice in community engagement, benefit-sharing and overall project integrity.
The creation of the standard has been funded through NatureScot’s FIRNS programme and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, with the intention that it will be adopted as a plug-in by high-integrity UK nature codes and by BSI Flex 705.
Kana Earth’s Role: Digitising the Standard
As part of our contribution, Kana Earth has digitised the CIS, enabling project developers to:
-
Complete all required fields for validation
-
Upload supporting evidence
-
Export the information into a ready-made Project Design Document, formatted for audit assessment by approved verifiers
Projects that achieve certification can proudly display the CIS badge within the Kana Earth Directory, demonstrating their commitment to community inclusion and high-integrity development.

Collaboration and Partners
We would like to thank Kana Earth’s John Goffin and all partners involved in developing the standard:
Their expertise and collaboration have been essential in shaping a standard that supports both community benefit and the long-term credibility of the UK nature market.
Watch the Demo
We’ve created a short demonstration showing how developers can use the CIS within the Kana platform.
